Experience 7 days of spectacular cycling by George S. Mickelson Trail, dedicated in 1998, and throughout the Black Hills of South Dakota. From the 109-mile Mickelson Trail with its gentle grades to the wildlife loop where you can find pronghorn antelope, elk, bison, prairie dogs, deer, mountain lions and bighorn sheep, from the Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore Monuments to the beauty of Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park we’ll experience stunning scenery, awesome wildlife, delicious meals, and native cultures; an unforgettable journey.

Whether you are a new or veteran cyclist, this region and tour is ideal for you. Our fully supported tour will provide a one-of-a kind bicycle adventure and access to all the best parts of this area.
This is a supported tour with camping, some indoor accommodations & optional indoor options, catered meals, on-route SAG, luggage transportation, and evening activities. The weather should be nice and the scenery spectacular.
Start/End: Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP)
Parking for the week will be available at our start point host hotel in Rapid City for a small fee. Airport parking is also available.

Terrain: Paved Road, Bike Trail, Gravel Trail
We’ll meet up with the group at a hotel in Rapid City, pack our luggage and be ready to ride. After a short orientation and map meeting with tour guides and fellow adventurers, we’ll pack a lunch and head out on Nemo Road toward Deadwood, South Dakota. We’ll stop in Nemo for our lunch and at the legendary Tevino’s Leathers as we make our way up toward, then down into Deadwood where “Wild” Bill Hickok was shot and killed in 1876. Take in a re-enacted gunfight before enjoying a hearty dinner and turning in for the night.

Terrain: Gravel Trail, Paved Road
We’ll headout on the George S. Mickelson trail for a day of car-free riding. The trail has more than 100 railroad bridges and 4 rock tunnels; we’ll see many of them today. We will ride through the tiny town of Rochford with the famous watering hole, Moonshine Gulch Saloon, Hill City is our destination for the day where we will reminisce of the beauty of “Big Mick” and look forward to more cycling on the trail tomorrow.

Terrain: Gravel Trail, Paved Road
The Mickelson Trail continues today as we head to the Crazy Horse Memorial, a privately funded unfinished sculpture that depicts the Oglala Lakota warrior by the same name. The mountain sized memorial was started in 1948 and continues after the passing of the sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski. We bid farewell to “Big Mick” today as we head toward Hot Springs, SD toward the middle of our ride. Another great day of cycling.

Terrain: Paved Road
Next up is Wind Cave National Park with its abundant wildlife rolling grasslands and mountains covered with forests as well as the most impressive caves in the world with more than 90 miles of passageways. We’ll take in the beauty of the park before we cycle to our overnight near Grace Coolidge Creek in Custer State Park.

Today, cycling is not required, but still allowed. A day of rest in Custer State Park will give us a lot of time to explore the natural beauty of the park. Whether you want to cycle more of the Wildlife Loop Road or the Needles Highway, rent kayaks on Sylvan Lake, take a hike on the many trails or simply relax at the visitor center, today is a day to enjoy without moving camp.

Terrain: Paved Road, Gravel Trail
Today we’ll head back toward Hill City on yet another route. One that allows us to tak in the world-famous Mount Rushmore National Memorial, enjoy the town of Keystone and take the 1880 steam train of the Black Hills Central Railroad, a tourist train that was once a mining train. It’s all aboard the train unless you want to power up the hill to Mount Rushmore.

Terrain: Paved Road
Utilizing scenic Sheridan Lake Road, we will head back into Rapid City and the end of our journey together. We’ll bid farewell to old and new friends and savor our memories of the last 8 days… outstanding cycling, beautiful scenery, an abundance of wildlife, and cultural connections..
